We are currently accepting applications for spring 2025 internships.
Due to the high volume of applications, we can not respond individually to every applicant.
Indianapolis Monthly magazine internships give students opportunities to work in the editorial, art, and digital departments during summer, spring, and fall sessions. Our interns get hands-on newsroom experience performing duties like fact-checking, writing short pieces, contributing to larger packages, creating online content, assisting with research, attending editorial meetings, pitching ideas, and going along on photo shoots and interviews.
The basics: Our internships are unpaid and must be completed while you’re still enrolled in college. Interns work a flexible number of hours per week during our office hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. We work both in the office and at home on a hybrid schedule. You can determine your availability and then set your hours with us in advance. The summer term begins around early to mid–May and ends early to mid–August, depending on when you are available. The fall and spring internships follow your semester dates, with some flexibility.
We like to provide a fun, informational learning experience for our interns. Though we do not pay, we understand the value of samples to aspiring journalists and designers, and we try to get you as many writing and design opportunities as possible in the print magazine, as well as online.
